Quote 8: Alive

"Ask not what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive... then go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

Howard Thurman

Figure out what makes you excited and find a job that pays you for it.  You will be working for most of your life so might as well do something you like.

Quote 7: Stress

"Mach-S, the speed at which stress can't keep up, is simply forward motion. But it has to be self- propelled. Note that people in cars are still stressed."

Jeff Mallett

Oh how true, if your stressed it's best to move forward, either with what is stressing you out,  or moving your body physically forward. Stress is nothing more than a prod to get you going.

Quote 6: Intelligence

"The ability to focus attention on important things is a defining characteristic of intelligence."
Robert J. Schiller

How often these days do I find myself off task doing something, that is really nothing.  I can spend an hour on the web going down a maze of rabbit trails that strays far from what I originally intended to do (check my e-mail).  I don't know what it is about me that causes my brain to want to do everything but what's important, but it is downright wrong. I read somewhere that you should always have a goal when going into something or else you'll flounder and waste bucket loads of precious time.  I find this very true, when I have a goal I stick to the task and get it done.  The great thing about the whole process is that you feel 10x better when you finish something productive then when you finish something that's worth nothing.
